I am an avid learner and love sharing resources — here are some books, articles, and podcasts that have influenced me and have been insightful for my clients.
EMDR
My main approach to therapy is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). It is a powerful and effective way to address a variety of mental health challenges - read more here. The founder of EMDR, Dr. Francine Shapiro, has written a very accessible book called, Getting Past Your Past, which includes many great tools
trauma & recovery
Bessel van der Kolk, The Body Keeps The Score, is an important book about the impact of trauma on body and mind and how activating neuroplasticity offers a pathway to recovery and healing. If you want more on neuroplasticity, Norman Doidge’s book, The Brain That Changes Itself, offers fascinating insight into this topic
mindfulness
happiness
So many people wonder what it takes to be happy. Here are some surprising and insightful thoughts from Dan Gilbert, one the preeminent researchers on happiness. Silvia Boorstein’s book Happiness Is An Inside Job offers a mindful approach to creating more joy and happiness.
Holistic healing
Finding your way out of depression, anxiety, trauma, and other challenges sometimes requires working holistically. I often combine psychotherapy, mindfulness, and ketamine assisted psychotherapy (KAP). Read more about KAP here.
Fear and Shame
Susan Jeffers book, Feel the Fear and do it Anyway, is for people wanting to break through fear-based limitations. Brene Brown’s book Daring Greatly is inspiring, uplifting, and well researched. It helps readers to overcome shame and develop courage. Fear and shame are challenges many of us grapple with
Finding meaning
One of my favorite books is Man’s Search For Meaning by Victor Frankl. A powerful tale about how to live a meaningful life - it is one of the most touching and impactful books I have read
“Love takes off the masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within. I use the word "love" here not merely in the personal sense but as a state of being, or a state of grace - not in the infantile American sense of being made happy but in the tough and universal sense of quest and daring and growth.”
-James Baldwin, American writer and activist
