Giving social support to others may boost your health

Giving social support to others may boost your health! The importance of a strong immune system has been top of mind for many if not all of us over the past two years. Research has shown that there is a link between our emotional wellbeing and our immune system: how we deal with emotions, our sense of wellbeing, and connection with others impact our physical health. We know this also from studies about loneliness: loneliness can directly impair the immune system. Researchers at Ohio State found that giving support to others might boost health as much as receiving support. I can recall many examples of feeling down or low and being pulled out of it by supporting a friend or engaging in a random act of kindness.
